Canadian Internship Program
Duration: 2 12 months
Features: Participants gain work experience through overseas training in their field. Participants have the opportunity to acquire new skills while gaining a better appreciation of the culture and values of Canada. Option to Qualify for Cambridge Work Experience Certificate.
Participants For young people eligible to work in Canada under one of Canadas International Youth Work Programs. Different countries have agreements with Canada under which young people (usually ages 18-35) from those countries are eligible for a visa that allows them to work in Canada. The Canadian Internship Program is designed for participants who are interested in gaining experience and training in their field of work, and although program sponsor offer paid placements in a few fields of work, the pay is secondary to the experience and this program is not intended for participants who want to earn money.
Eligibility Requirements - All applicants must: Eligible to work in Canada under one of Canadas International Youth Programs Be first-time participants on the visa program they are applying under; Be recent graduates or young professionals; Be fluent in English and familiar with English terminology of their field (IELTS Score of 6 or higher) Have had prior training or intern/work experience in their field; Be between the ages of 20 and 35 years old; Be covered with sufficient health and accident insurance for the length of their stay in Canada**. Be able to participate in a telephone interview with program sponsor in Canada and the assigned internship host company Have a keen, motivated and professional attitude Have a realistic expectation of the internship position they request: o Interns seeking placements for short durations (less than 4 months) will not get as much responsibility as those who can take a longer program o Program sponsor are unable to place interns into management positions. o Program sponsor are unable to place applicants with just high school education unless they have relevant work experience and/or apprenticeship training o Financial placements in Banking, Stock broking or International Trade are limited and require applicants with excellent academic records and prior experience. o Law placements are also very limited. o Placements in Physiotherapy, occupational therapy and veterinary care are accepted on an observation or administrative basis only. Students are not allowed to practice or have patient contact in any way whilst in Canada without the appropriate Provincial License.
Who Can Get the Work Permit and How: Working Holiday Program Young people ages 18-30 (or 35 in some countries) applying from the following countries can come into Canada to do an internship if they can get a work permit under the Working Holiday Program offered by the Canadian government in their own country. Employer Specific Work Permits The following countries have one or two programs called under the International Experience Canada initiative allowing students, young workers and professionals to do internships in Canada. The work permit can only be applied for after a job offer has been granted.

1) Kategorija - Darbas atostogaujant (Working Holiday) Ši kategorija skirta jauniems Lietuvos piliečiams nuo 18 iki 35 metų (imtinai), kurie ketina keliauti į Kanadą ir tuo pačiu nori susirasti apmokamą darbą, kad galėtų papildyti savo finansinius išteklius. Šios kategorijos dalyviams paprastai išduodamas atviras (open) darbo leidimas (maksimalus laikotarpis - 12 mėnesių). PLC PASTABA: PIRMĄKART vykstantiems į Kanadą su darbo praktikos programa iki 12 mėn. rekomenduotume Working Holiday Kanados vizos / darbo leidimo kategorija pasinaudoti Canada Working Holiday programoje, bet su Working Holiday kategorijos aprobavimu (Rekomendaciniu laišku / Letter of Introduction) iš Kanados ambasados galėtumėte pretenduoti ir į Canadian Internship Program (apie kurią informuoja šis PLC tinklapio puslapis). 2) Kategorija - Jaunieji specialistai (Young Professionals) Ši kategorija skirta jauniems Lietuvos piliečiams nuo 18 iki 35 metų (imtinai), kurie ketina įgyti tarptautinės darbo patirties savo srityje pagal iš anksto suderintą darbo sutartį Kanadoje. Teisę pateikti savo paraišką Kanados Ambasadai į šią kategoriją turi tie kandidatai, kurie pateiks darbo pasiūlymą iš darbdavio Kanadoje. Šios kategorijos dalyviams bus išduoti konkrečiam darbdaviui priskirti darbo leidimai, kurie galios darbdavio pasiūlymo laiške nurodytą laiką (maksimalus laikotarpis - 12 mėnesių).
3) Kategorija - Tarptautinės stažuotės (International Co-op / Internship) Ši kategorija skirta jauniems Lietuvos piliečiams nuo 18 iki 35 metų (imtinai), įstojusiems ir besimokantiems povidurinio mokslo įstaigose Lietuvoje, kurie nori atlikti stažuotę ar laikinai padirbėti Kanadoje, taip įvykdant dalį savo mokymo programos. Teisę pateikti paraišką Kanados Ambasadai gali tie kandidatai, kurie pateiks oficialų dokumentą iš Lietuvos povidurinio mokslo įstaigos apie priėmimą ir darbo pasiūlymą iš darbdavio Kanadoje. Šios kategorijos dalyviams bus išduoti konkrečiam darbdaviui priskirti darbo leidimai, kurie galios darbdavio pasiūlymo laiške nurodytą laiką (maksimalus laikotarpis - 12 mėnesių).

Social activities in Vancouver and Whistler ranging from pub nights to ski trips (information included in program fee, whilst the actual activities may need additional costs). Brochures and maps to familiarize yourself with Canada and the local scene.
Optional Add-Ons (at additional cost): Accommodation in dorm room at a central hostel in Vancouver (includes breakfast, linen, a towel, and a welcome drink). Accommodation in host family (Vancouver only). Airport Pick up services Job Skills Seminar (5 hour small group class teaching resume and cover letter writing, interview skills, work place skills, work place etiquette and conflict resolution) English language classes as preparation for work placement in Vancouver or Whistler.
Insurance Once you have been accepted into the program, you will need to acquire insurance coverage for the duration of your stay in Canada. You can acquire such insurance through Program sponsor.*
Location of Employment / Internship Most placements will be made in the Greater Vancouver area, however, in certain fields of work placements may be made further a field, in places such as Whistler, Vancouver Island, northern British Columbia, the Yukon or Ontario. In such cases, the participant will be expected to pay the cost of travel to his/her place of work. Candidates in the field of Hospitality must be willing to complete their internship in a hotel, resort or restaurant in any of the major tourist destinations in Canada.
Professional Interns do not get paid and do not expect any form of remuneration. Some companies like to give an honorarium and/or a stipend to the intern after the completion of the work placement; however this is at the discretion of the Corporate Host. It is not promoted as part of the experience and is never to be expected by the interns. Skilled Work Placements might be paid and that rate of pay is usually minimum wage but could be less as it could be a stipend.
Selection of Field of Work / Internship On the Application Form, students must select three fields of work that they would like to gain experience in. Program sponsor does not guarantee a placement in the students most preferred field of work. The number and quality of placement opportunities will depend upon the students education, work experience, job skills and the state of the economy in Canada at the time.
Types of Companies Program sponsor works with a wide selection of companies, from small organizations to large blue chip multi-nationals. Each company provides unique and exciting opportunities to every student joining them for a period of unpaid work experience. While many companies are located in the center of the city, some placements may be located at a greater distance depending on availability and the students preferred area of work. Hours of work vary, depending on the placement, and can be between 20 - 37.5 hours / week. PLEASE NOTE: Program sponsor are unable to guarantee a placement at a specific company although program sponsor are happy to contact requested organizations as noted by an applicant as part of a wider search for their internship.
Requirements for Successful Placement 1. Students must provide all required documentation before an application will be considered 2. Students must successfully complete the interview with host employer for the work practicum.
Internship Placement Sectors
English Classes (Optional, at additional cost) Interns who need or want to upgrade their English skills before starting their placement can take English classes in either Vancouver or Whistler (offers a range of program options including general English, Business English, Cambridge Exam and TOEFL preparation programs and English for Lawyers). Interns can also take English + Ski/Snowboard/Mountain Biking in Whistler. Interns can study as much as they want with minimum stay being 2 weeks.
Monitoring and Reporting All host employers are screened by Program sponsor before students are placed with them. While on placement, interns are required to submit a weekly report to their Work Placement Coordinator (via our online form) and this report gives interns the opportunity to raise any issues and ask any questions they may have. The Work Placement Coordinators are always available to assist interns and help them resolve any issues that may arise at their work place. The Work Placement Coordinators also check in from time to time with the employers to see how the interns are performing and how their attendance is.
Programos mokestis 1400 Kanados dolerių / CAD (įskaitant Kanados Harmonized Sales Tax / PVM).
* Pasaulio lietuvių centras (PLC) programos dalyviams iš Lietuvos parūpins medicininių išlaidų ir repatriacijos DRAUDIMĄ 12-kai mėnesių su 20% nuolaida (nuo draudimo bendrovės taikomų tarifų kitiems Jūsų amžiaus klientams)! Svarbu ir tai, kad jei grįžtumėte iš programos ženkliai anksčiau (pvz.: po 6 9 mėnesių) ir iškart kreipsitės į PLC, galimas draudimo įmokos už neišnaudotą laikotarpį grąžinimas. Draudimas 12-kai mėnesių PRIVALOMAS programos dalyviams atvykstant į Kanadą. Kadangi leidimas dirbti Kanadoje baigiamas forminti atvykimo į Kanadą oro uoste / poste, jokiu būdu nerekomenduotina taupyti, draudžiantis trumpesniam laikotarpiui. |
