Vancouver Internships Program

Vancouver Internships Program

Vancouver Internships Program offers students the unique opportunity to internationalize, to improve their English skills, and to gain international work experience. Our professional internships for English as a Second Language students are designed for candidates coming to Vancouver to improve their English skills and to practise them in a Canadian company.

An international internship is a supervised practical training for students and professionals at a host company that allows students to link classroom learning to workplace experience, including first hand exposure to Canadian business culture, as well as real world opportunities for practising Business English in their respective industry.

International internships give you a competitive advantage in the job market.

Your internship is a monitored work experience related to your academic field of study or previous work experience, and meeting specific learning goals. As per Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) guidelines, all candidates need a valid work visa (Working Holiday Visa, SWAP or Study and Work Permit (C30 Exemption) for the entire period of their internship. As with any internship program in Canada, CIC guidelines require that your Internship not exceed a 50/50 split (the internship portion cannot exceed 50% of the total program duration).

Business English Workplace Preparation
Business English Course consisting of intensive grammar, speaking, listening and writing classes, as well as high level Business English and workplace preparation classes that will allow students to get ready for their internship. Emphasis is placed on increasing industry specific vocabulary based on real industry case studies. Students learn to develop effective presentations, carry on negotiations, conduct business meetings and write effectively while gaining practical knowledge of North American business culture and customs.

Internship at a Canadian Company
• The internship is a supervised practical training (through weekly reports, contact assignments, progress evaluations, personal feedback, SWOT analysis, final report & presentations), related to an academic field of study or equivalent work experience. The internship allows language acquisition and practice in the context of industry specific terminology and practices, cultural competence, conflict resolution, problem solving, teamwork, handling criticism, adaptability, motivation and leadership skills.
• The internship offers multiple opportunities to link classroom learning to workplace experience.
• The internship will be arranged on location after an interview with a prospective host company. Upon request, internship placements can also be arranged prior to departure.
• Upon successful completion of the academic and practical components, students will receive a Certificate of Participation and a Reference Letter from the Host Company.
In most cases internships are unpaid. During the entire stay, candidates will be supported by their internship coordinator.

Vancouver Internships Program participants‘ impressions
“I think that this experience is the best way to learn English quickly and efficiently because you always speak English and also learn business English, which is good for my career … I am sure that this experience will allow me to find a good job later because Business Objects is a well known company in the sector of business intelligence.” Driss, France, University Program
“I was sent abroad by my company with the goal to improve my English…because in the company I work in Italy, we sell products that we buy in the US and Canada.“ Alberto, Italy
“I had to improve my communication…not only soft skills, but my technical skills, and that was a really valuable experience for me.” Anna, Russia
“I was working for the purchasing team on a lead-time validation project at Kodak. I worked closely with the suppliers and purchasing agents so as to be sure there are no mistakes in the process. I had very good relationships with my colleagues…and they involved me in their discussions and taught me many expressions… even slang.” Gregoire, France, University Program
“I worked on two Human Resources projects – recruitment and learning and development. I had to define the recruitment process steps, try to improve it, revise the different level, and test steps…it was a great experience.” Maria, Hungary
“It's not enough to have the creativity or the abilities, and I'm learning from my supervisor that is very important the way people talk, and express themselves. He is helping me to make decisions, to be tough and to go straight to the point in business, how to show to others my point of view in order to be listened, understood and in the case of clients, to accept my proposals.” Lina, Mexico, University Program
“I'm benefiting a lot from what I have learned, in class and at my internship. Apart from all that, my English improved a lot which was also very important for me, I made a lot of new friends, and I discovered a passion for Canada while living and travelling there!” Susanne, Germany
“I could say I got more confidence at job interviews, and now I know my next step as a professional in a global company.” Tomomi, Japan
